Has a woman ever been catty towards you? Been jealous of you?
Let’s be honest here. So many of us ladies can act catty towards or be jealous of other women. At the very least, we often compare ourselves, romanticizing other women’s lives while looking at our own life and believing we aren’t enough: we aren’t smart enough, as pretty, as fit, as accomplished, on and on and on.
It’s so important to remember that when a woman is catty towards or jealous of you, it has little to do with you and everything to do with what’s going on in her own heart, in her own interior struggle.
The truth is…
Insecure women tear other women down.
Insecure women judge other women.
Insecure women gossip about other women. It’s this very woman who needs our love and attention.
Today, we at Woman Genius call you to join the global movement to STOP THIS NONSENSE.
How beautiful would the world be if all women united, spent time and effort building each other up, and supported and encouraged each other to be the best we can be?
So what can we do to help stop the cycle of women tearing each other down and start a new movement where we’re all lifting each other up?
1. If you find yourself in a conversation where others are negatively talking about another woman, defend her, say something nice about her and walk away.
2. If you feel yourself about to gossip or be jealous of another woman’s hair, skin, body, life or whatever… take a deep breath, remember our worldwide mission is to empower each other, and then say something positive about the woman you’re struggling with. Pay her a compliment or say one nice thing about her instead of something nasty (we’re SURE you can find ONE nice thing to say).
3. If it’s too hard to say something nice, then do what my momma always told me, “Say something nice or say nothing at all.” Just walk away.
Ever hear of Spontaneous Trait Transference? It’s when people hear you using a word / phrase / or concept and associate YOU with that same language (positive or negative). Even though they consciously know you’re gossiping or saying something nasty about someone else, they will walk away from your conversation subconsciously feeling negatively about YOU.
So in the end, even though our initial strategy might have been to make ourselves look better through the negative conversation we had about someone else, we are the ones who walk away with a little less dignity. This is yet another reason that we must always strive to be positive.
Ladies, let’s make a pact to build each other up, support our fellow sisters, and create a happier and more caring world in which we can all thrive.
